Must Have Cloth Baby Carrier

Cloth Baby Carrier (Amazon) If I didn't have this, I would miss out on hours upon hours of snuggling my baby and rocking-walking her to sleep.

Our baby absolutely loves being in this cloth carrier. And I was elated to learn that the carrier can be used up to 35 lbs - or I guess for as long as she still loves being in it!

Initially, I was reluctant to try this because I thought it looked a little silly. It's basically a long piece of stretchy cloth and you have to follow the instructions on how to wrap it around your body and then put your baby in it. (I watched a youtube video.) But then I tried it and was addicted! Being an older mom with a bad back and lacking the arm muscles to carry a baby around all the time, this product was a game changer for me!

When they are really little, babies find comfort in hearing the beating of your heart because that's what they heard in the womb. This carrier puts your baby's ear right to your heart!

Obviously, we use carriers like this so we can walk around with our babies and have our arms and hands free to pick up other things, etc. It's still challenging to multi-task other activities - such as typing this post - while you have a baby in this cloth carrier. But I have taken many walks with her in this and I love that we get plenty of close, snuggle time when she is in this stretchy cloth, baby carrier.

I'm sure there are many brands out there but the one I use was given to me by a mother of four and it's an affordable price: Stretchy Baby Cloth Carrier by KeaBabies (Amazon)

I recommend you watch the video published by the manufacturers. But here are my written instructions:

  1. Find the middle of the fabric (marked by the tag) and put this across your belly

  2. Wrap the cloth around your belly, bringing the two ends to your back and cross the cloth in the back

  3. While the two sides are behind you and crossed, bring each end over your shoulders - creating an "X" on your back

  4. Cross the two sides in the front - this time, creating an "X" across your chest on the front side of your body

  5. Tuck in the two ends into the section of cloth across your belly (keeping the "X" intact) - like suspenders

  6. Cross the two ends in the back again - against your lower back

  7. Bring the two ends to the front again and this time, tie a knot across your waist like a belt

  8. Face your baby toward you and place baby inside the middle of the "X" you created on your chest. You will need to do this one leg at a time - making sure to spread the fabric across your baby's bottom on each side

  9. Once the baby seems secure in the new "seat," pull each foot and leg through the fabric that is running across your stomach. This is the section of fabric above the one that has the knot in it.

  10. Finally, pull over the piece of fabric that you created in step 1 so that it runs up the back of your baby to create a large pouch which will hold your baby in.
