Top Two Home Office Essentials

Working from home?

If you're a parent working from home, set up a home office that will maximize your efficacy and consider the following two furniture pieces:

Standing Desk: TechOrbits Standing Desk Converter (Amazon) A standing desk is especially useful for parents with a baby in the house. That's because most babies prefer you stand while holding them!

I like this converter desk because you can put it on top of the desk you use it now and easily remove it when you don't need a standing desk anymore. Standing desks are of course better for your back health. It takes getting used to but I think you'll be more productive, healthier and happier in the long run - especially if you're taking care of a baby at the same time.

Ergonomic Chair: Henry Miller Mirra 2 Chair (Amazon) I know this is a big investment but if you're spending any amount of time at a desk in front of your computer in a non ergonomic chair, you're slowly or probably quickly, destroying your back. This Henry Miller chair is the best office chair in the marketplace and in my opinion, the price is justified. It looks pretty stylish too - no surprise from the inventor of the Eames chair.

It was recommended to us by my husband's colleague who also has one for her home office. Prior to this, my husband was using a dining room chair and sitting in that for 8 hour stretches of time so I suppose anything is an improvement! My husband says this chair forces his posture to improve and the mesh seat seems to spread the pressure of his body weight so that you don't form pain spots. (My husband is medium build and height.)

The chair comes completely pre-assembled - all we had to do is roll it out of the large box. That was nice because I hate purchasing a high ticket item and then being left to assemble it myself. I have had a lot of office chairs in my lifetime of working at a desk and they all seem to have about a two year life span. The Henry Miller chairs are built to last so I think in the long run, we'll get our money's worth with this chair. Our backs will surely thank us!
